WSB Distributors is a fully Australian owned and operated business based at Clare, Jamestown, Saddleworth in the Mid North, Karoonda in the Murray Mallee, Loxton in the Riverland of South Australia, and Humpty Doo in the Northern Territory.
A family-owned, third generation business, WSB has continued to progress their sales, parts & service reputation as a major supplier of reputable & reliable agricultural & industrial machinery.
AJ ‘Johnny’ Walker set up a tax and land agency business in Clare until World War II broke out when he moved to Tennant Creek as an Army paymaster.
A family tragedy in late 1943 saw Johnny return to Clare and re-open his business, focusing on income tax returns, valuations, wills, and real estate.
Johnny started selling fuel and introduced the Morris car dealership to his business adding sales and servicing.
Johnny purchased a garage on Old Main North road in 1952 and 18 months later he moved to a new premises on Main North Road which today remains the primary location of the WSB Distributors business. The same year Johnny’s son, Brian, joined the company trading as AJ Walker & Co.
Brian Walker left the business and was replaced with Brian Stanway who went on to marry Johnny & Joyce Walker’s daughter, Raelene.
AJ Walker & Co added agricultural brand, Massey Ferguson, to the company with Brian Stanway as the main salesperson.
Brian Stanway is made Director of the company.
AJ Walker & Co undergoes a name change to Walker & Stanway.
Walker & Stanway undergoes another name change to Walker, Stanway & Beckman, with the involvement of Blyth-based Massey Ferguson dealers, John & Elva Beckman.
Walker, Stanway & Beckman becomes, WSB Distributors.
WSB Distributors added franchises; Kubota, Silvan, Subaru, Renault, Peugeot, and later, Toyota.
With the rapid growth of the wine grape industry in the Clare Valley during this time, WSB Distributors also became a major supplier of viticulture equipment.
Johnny & Joyce Walker retire from WSB Distributors, leaving the running of the business to their son-in-law, Brian Stanway & selling their share to Brian & Raelene’s second son, Robert Stanway, who is now Director with his younger brother, Phil Stanway.
Brian Stanway retired due to ill-health & long-term employee & sales manager, Trevor Fairchild, takes over as company manager.
Phil Stanway joins the company as agricultural salesman after completing his bachelor of agricultural science at the University of Adelaide.
WSB Distributors spreads its professional footprint to open a dealership in Jamestown, South Australia, offering parts, sales and service.
Company manager, Trevor Fairchild, begins his succession planning for retirement & with support of the Directors, appoints administration manager, Debra Wehrmann, as business manager. Until Trevor’s sudden passing in December 2020, he remained an integral part of the business assisting with the take-over & set up of the Saddleworth & Karoonda dealerships.
WSB Distributors purchase RH Schulz Pty Ltd at Saddleworth, South Australia
WSB Distributors purchase GJ Clarke & Co at Karoonda, South Australia.
WSB Distributors once again spread their professional footprint and establish a new dealership at Loxton, South Australia.
